A car bomb has been detonated at a football stadium in northern Iraq, killing ten people and wounding some 100 others, police sources say.

The attack occurred in the town of Tal Afar west of the violence-hit city of Mosul on Friday.

The incident comes a few days after militant attacks across the country left 110 people dead and several hundreds of others injured.

In the latest act of violence, an explosion killed two soldiers, who were trying to defuse a bomb planted on the road connecting Baghdad with Mahmoudiya, almost 30 kilometers (18 miles) south of the capital.
